Privacy policy

This policy explains what information we collect, how we use and protect it, and the choices you have when you use Mycoursis.

1. Overview

Mycoursis is an independent student website for supported AUB and LAU students. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or officially connected to AUB or LAU. In this policy, “Mycoursis,” “we,” “us,” and “our” refer to the team operating mycoursis.com and its student tools.

This policy applies to our website, accounts, and related services. It does not cover third-party websites or services that have their own privacy policies.

2. Information we collect

Information you provide

  • Account details, such as your university email address, username, password in protected form, university, major, and profile choices.
  • Content and requests you submit, including support messages, reports, feedback, and study resources or related information you choose to upload.
  • Academic-planning choices, such as selected courses, sections, schedules, and other preferences you save in our tools.

Information collected automatically

  • Basic technical and security information, such as IP address, browser and device type, request times, pages requested, and diagnostic or security logs.
  • Session, authentication, security, and preference cookies needed to keep you signed in, protect your account, and remember your choices.
  • Website usage information through Google Analytics when usage cookies are enabled, as explained below.

3. How we use information

We use information to:

  • create and manage accounts, verify supported university access, and provide the tools you request;
  • save your settings and academic-planning choices;
  • respond to support requests, complaints, reports, and feedback;
  • operate, maintain, troubleshoot, understand, and improve Mycoursis;
  • detect abuse, protect students and the service, enforce our rules, and maintain security; and
  • comply with applicable law and protect our legal rights.

Where applicable law requires a legal basis, we rely on providing the service you requested, our legitimate interests in operating and securing Mycoursis, your consent for optional usage cookies where required, and compliance with legal obligations.

4. When we share information

We do not sell or rent your personal information.

We may share limited information:

  • with service providers that help us host the website, store data, deliver email, monitor reliability, provide support infrastructure, or measure website usage;
  • when required by law, legal process, or a valid government request;
  • when reasonably necessary to protect users, prevent fraud or abuse, investigate security issues, or protect our rights; or
  • as part of a merger, financing, acquisition, reorganization, or transfer of the service, subject to appropriate safeguards.

Providers may process information in countries other than yours. When required, we use appropriate safeguards for those transfers. We do not share account data with AUB or LAU merely because you use a university email address.

5. Cookies and Google Analytics

Mycoursis uses essential cookies for sign-in, account security, authentication flows, and saved preferences. These cookies are necessary for parts of the service to work.

We also use Google Analytics to understand visits and improve the website when usage cookies are enabled. Google may receive information such as pages visited, approximate location derived from IP address, device and browser information, and interactions with the website. We do not intentionally send names, university email addresses, or the contents of support messages to Google Analytics.

Depending on your region, we may ask before enabling usage cookies or enable them by default where permitted. Your saved choice takes priority, and advertising-related storage remains disabled. You can review or change your choice at any time.

6. Retention and security

We keep personal information only for as long as reasonably needed to provide Mycoursis, maintain legitimate business and security records, resolve disputes, enforce agreements, and meet legal obligations. Retention periods vary by the type of information and why we hold it. Backups and security logs may remain for a limited period after information is removed from active systems.

We use administrative, technical, and organizational measures designed to protect information, including access controls, protected credentials, request validation, and private access controls for student resources. No online service can guarantee absolute security, so please use a strong, unique password and contact us if you suspect unauthorized account access.

7. Your choices and rights

You may update available profile information in your account, change your usage-cookie choice in Cookie Settings, or contact us to request access, correction, deletion, or a copy of personal information associated with you. Depending on where you live, you may also have rights to object to or restrict certain processing, withdraw consent, or complain to a data-protection authority.

We may need to verify your identity before completing a request. Some information may be retained where required by law or where an exception applies. Mycoursis is intended for university students and is not directed to children under 13.

8. Contact us

For privacy questions or requests, email us at info@mycoursis.com. Please describe your request and use the university email connected to your account when possible.

We may update this policy as Mycoursis changes. If an update is significant, we will take reasonable steps to bring it to your attention. The date at the top shows when this policy was last updated.
